CURRENT SITUATION - SURVEYS of the dungeon - November 1987

DEPARTMENTAL SERVICE OF ARCHITECTURE of Carcassonne
Departmental Archives of Aude Sustainable Development Center

Following the collapse of the top of the keep gable and the internal staircase in 1987, the castle was secured in 1988 and then stabilized by the DRAC from 1992 to 1993 to restore the stability and watertightness of the exterior envelope. A new roof was installed, the collapsed gable was rebuilt, but the collapse of the old stairwell was not followed by reconstruction work. Since this conservation intervention, the keep has remained as it was without any particular change in its technical and constructive condition. We are publishing the survey of the building carried out shortly after the collapse of the east gable. This survey provides valuable information on the spatial configuration of the keep.
